The Work of Prayer for Revival in Other Places

29th November 2013

United Prayer

Dear brothers and sisters

My family and I moved to Ripon and to Bethel Evangelical Church for the first time just over two years ago. The one thing that has excited me more than anything else in my ministry over that time is the growing burden amongst Christians in Yorkshire that our dark, hard county and nation needs a mighty outpouring of the Holy Spirit, and that we as the church of Jesus need to come together in unison to cry to almighty God that He would do it.

Perhaps more than ever before we are thirsting for the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives, and His power poured out on our families, friends and neighbours. We are labouring for the Gospel perhaps harder than we have ever done before, and at the same time we are seeing Jesus rejected and dishonoured perhaps more than ever before in the whole history of Great Britain. Deserved wrath is upon our beloved nation, and upon His beloved church. We need God to do something huge. Something new. Something wholly underserved. Nothing else will do.

In faith I believe He will do it, because He is faithful and merciful. But He will not do it without us.

It is indeed a heart-searching truth that the union between God and His people is so close, and that their partnership in the work of saving the world is so real that the performance of their part is just as indispensable as God’s.”(Andrew Murray, The Coming Revival (London: 1989), p. 2)

‘“Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.” He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” Then He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “What! Could you not watch with Me one hour? Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”’ (Matthew 26v37-41)

I believe Jesus weeps over our precious land. And I believe He is calling us to do likewise, together, across this great county, that once more He might do a mighty work in our hearts, and might come and water His land before it is too late. Are you moved and burdened for God’s world, our great nation and this beautiful county? Do you ache for lost souls and feel powerless to bring them to their Saviour? There is an undeniable cost to praying in this way together, on top of our private, family and church prayers. But He will bless us, I am sure of it. And He is surely worth it!

Let’s seek Him together at the start of a new year. Prayer meetings will be happening in the following places on Saturday the 4th of January 2014 between 10am and 12 noon. Please come!
